About these messages

Daniel Quick <daniel.quick@gmail.com> sends some email as a short notice with a link instead of putting the text in the email itself. The message stays on a server they run, and opening it is recorded, so they know it was read. Fetching the link without pressing the button is recorded as a probe (time, IP address, browser string) so the sender can tell scanners from people; a probe is not counted as the message being read.

What is recorded

• The date and time you press the button and, if asked, enter a code.
• Your IP address and the identification string your browser sends.
• Whether the code was entered, which shows the message was opened by someone who could read your mailbox.

How long it is kept

The message text and attachments are deleted after 30 days by default, or sooner if the sender withdraws them. The record of when it was opened is kept for 365 days.

What is not done

No cookies other than the one that keeps the message open after you open it. No scripts, fonts, or images from anyone but this server. No tracking pixels in the email.
